News Report
Cardiff City v Ipswich

With all the other league games postponed due to the weather, Cardiff grabbed their chance to go back up to third place when they beat Ipswich Town 4-0, doing the double on the East Anglian’s.
Cardiff made their intentions clear from the first whistle when Natasha Harding had her shot fumbled by Ipswich’s goalkeeper, Faye Lunn. Zoe Atkins pounced on the rebound but shot straight into the grateful arms of Lunn.
On 10 minutes Chantelle Miller unleashed a shot from outside the box that thundered off the crossbar and the rebound sat up nicely for Jordan Frayne but her effort also ended up being gathered in safely by Lunn.
Harding was a threat out wide on the right and one of her mazy runs led to a neat pass to Charlotte Miller, who set up Sophie Ingle, only to see her shot fly over the cross bar.
Ten minutes later the crossbar again thwarted a Cardiff attack following a rocket of a shot from Harding. This time the rebound fell to Laurie Harries who scuffed her shot wide, with the empty net begging.
But the deserved breakthrough came in the 35th minute when the hard working Cardiff captain, Charlotte Miller, converted a Harding corner, and the Welsh girls went in one up.
Not long into the second half, Harding was again the provider for Cardiff’s second goal when more good work on the left flank saw her cut the ball back beautifully for Atkins, who neatly clipped the ball over the stranded keeper.
Minutes later Ingle came close with a cheeky effort when Lunn threw the ball out from the Ipswich box. The unfortunate defender lost control and Ingle seized on the mistake, cleverly chipping the ball goal wards from 35 yards only to see it bounce just before the goal line and go over the bar!
Defender Lauren Townsend then provided Harries with a pinpoint pass. She had timed her run to perfection to beat the offside trap but her shot went agonisingly wide.
Cardiff’s third goal came on 61 minutes from a free kick after Chantelle Miller was brought down on the edge of the box. She took the kick herself, driving the ball low across the six yard area where Frayne was on hand to slot home.
Cardiff then made changes with Atkins making way for Danielle Broadhurst. These two players have not featured in the recent Cardiff games as they have been away with the successful Welsh Under 17’s who have qualified for the European Finals next April.
Five minutes later Frayne was replaced by defender Kirsty Lewis.
With ten minutes left, Chantelle Miller sent another free kick into the box only for the newcomer Broadhurst to head just wide of the target.
The Ipswich goal was under siege for the last twenty minutes. Even youngster Lewis tried her luck from twenty five yards out, but Lunn did well to hold the ball.
In the 81st minute Cardiff got their fourth and final goal when Harries set up Carla Parfitt, who ran into the box and headed the ball home.
Another home game next Sunday, 9th November, sees Brighton & Hove Albion Ladies travel to the Cardiff International Stadium to try and avenge their 5-3 thumping by Cardiff back in August. Kick off will be 2.00pm.
