News Report
Cardiff City v Millwall Lionesses
(24th Dec 2008 09:59 AM)
Article by:
Zoe Mendham
Cardiff City’s unbeaten run of 6 games came to an end against Millwall in the League, when they were beaten 3-0 at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium.
Cardiff hoped to end the year on a high after an impressive string of results having lost only once in their last 10 games which has moved them up into 2nd position in the table. But a strong Millwall side proved too much for the Welsh side who had to make several changes to the team formation due to injury and illness.
A good first half performance from both sides with plenty of goalmouth incidents ended with Millwall taking the lead on 41 minutes when Jodie Mugford fired home from the edge of the box.
A minute later Cardiff had a glorious chance to equalise when Natasha Harding floated in an inviting free kick, with Jordan Frayne rising to head just inches wide of the crossbar.
Cardiff pressed for the equaliser in the second half but Millwall secured their win with a double strike on 72 and 78 minutes with goals from Anne Marie Heatherson and Victoria Boardman.
Cardiff’s next fixture is the long away trip to Sunderland for the 4th round tie in the Womens FA Cup on Sunday 4th January.
