‘Refuge’ CCLFC Supports Women's Charity

Cardiff City LFC and Colchester United took part in a campaign to support the women’s charity against domestic violence, ‘Refuge’ in a recent Tesco Premier Women’s League game.
At the start of the game both team captains and 2 female match officials released pink balloons to support the ‘Refuge’ project.
The Campaign was set up by Chris Phillips, whose daughter Johanna Croxton, 21, suffered violence at the hands of her husband, Jonathan, who was jailed for life in 2006 after strangling her at their home.
Mr Phillips, from Old Coulsdon, south east London said, “I have contacted numerous women’s clubs asking them to support our campaign and I’m pleased that Cardiff and Colchester have supported us. The idea is to raise awareness of domestic violence, through football. Jo was a Crystal Palace supporter, she loved football and I wanted to do something different. Getting women’s teams involved seemed appropriate”.
Chairperson of Cardiff City LFC, Kath Kavanagh, said, “We were honoured to be asked to support such a worthwhile charity. Domestic violence affects all walks of life and we felt it important to try and do our bit to help raise the profile of the charity”.
Mr Phillips has held several charity events in aid of domestic violence charity Refuge and is hoping to get other ladies' football teams around the country to participate.
