News Report
Cardiff City v Caernarfon Town

Cardiff City Ladies took a step further to defending their seventh successive Welsh Cup title when they beat Caernarfon Town 3-1 in North Wales at the weekend.
Despite a sunny day, the pitch was very tacky and uneven and this made Cardiff’s usual passing game difficult.
From the outset, Cardiff’s front pairing of Natasha Harding and Laurie Harries proved a handful for Caernarfon’s defence, with their speed and ingenuity.
It took the defending champions only six minutes to open the scoring when Harding laid on a lovely through ball for Nicola Cousins to run onto. Her shot hit the underside of the bar and crossed the line for the first goal.
Cardiff commanded the central areas and dominated the midfield. They were unlucky not to stretch their lead after long range efforts from both Cousins and Jordan Frayne went just wide of the mark, followed shortly afterwards by a shot from Rachel Cullen which struck the post.
Cardiff captain, Charlotte Miller made herself a nuisance in midfield, popping up all over the pitch. She floated in a cross field ball which found Frayne unmarked in acres of space out wide. She sent the ball back in to Marie Barrow who headed the ball inches over the crossbar.
Caernarfon were reduced to half chances, with the Cardiff defence controlling their sole front runner, Aila Horlick. From a Caernarfon corner just before half time, Cardiff broke away, with Cullen finding Cousins, who, in turn put in a defence-splitting pass for Harries. With only the keeper to beat, her effort went agonisingly wide.
Caernarfon had done well to keep the score down to only one for the visitors at the break. However, within five minutes of the restart, Cardiff doubled their score when Cousins’ shot hit the bar from another long range effort and Barrow beat the defence to head home the rebound.
Harding, who had worked hard out on the left throughout the game, skipped passed several tackles to make her way into the box, and then laid on a perfectly weighted pass to Zoe Atkins whose shot was well saved by the Caernarfon keeper.
In the 80th minute Caernarfon pulled back a goal following a defensive mix up by Cardiff who were unable to clear their line. The ball came back out to the edge of the box where Horlick was waiting and she drilled it into the back of the net.
Five minutes from time, Miller settled Cardiff’s nerves when she stabbed the ball home from close range after Harding had jumped with the goalkeeper to get on the end of a Sam Jones cross. Miller had read the flick-on beautifully to pounce and put the tie beyond battling Caernarfon’s reach.
This win has secured Cardiff’s place in the semi final and they are favourites to retain their title for a successive seventh year.
Next week sees Cardiff City Ladies return to league action when they entertain Crystal Palace at Llanrumney University Playing Feilds, with the kick off at 2.00pm.
