News Report
U16's v Cambrian
(20th Mar 2009 01:29 PM)
Article by:
Zoe Mendham
Cardiff travelled away to Cambrian on St David’s Day, 1st March, and celebrated in style, winning 7-0.
The pitch was immaculate and arguable better than the one we played the Semi Final of the Welsh Cup on the week previous.
The game started well with Cambrian setting up to frustrate Cardiff. Though Cardiff had a lot of the ball in the first half, the Cambrian defence was holding firm.
When it looked like it was going to be honours even at half time, Lisa broke the deadlock and Rachel quickly added a second.
The second half had barely started, and Cambrian were through, but Jamie made a point blank save to keep Cardiff’s two goal cushion intact.
Fired on by this, Cardiff responded. Rachel scored her second before Ceri added a great individual goal.
The substitutions were made, and Cath instantly made her mark by scoring two goals in quick succession. The race was on to see if either could get a hat-trick.
Neither quite managed it, though this was not for trying with both hitting the woodwork.
Captain Alex added a 7th for Cardiff late on.
Cambrian to their credit kept battling and running to the final whistle.
The teams will meet each other again in the league cup and both teams know it will be another hard working game, whatever the result may be.
