U14's v Cambrian
(25th Mar 2009 07:42 PM)
Article by:
Zoe Mendham
Cardiff U14's slipped to a 2-1 defeat in a hard fought game of two halves.
Cambrian started very strongly in a first half which they were to dominate. Early pressure resulted in a dangerous cross, shot over the bar and a goal line clearance in desperate Cardiff defending.
The pattern continued when a back pass led to a fiercely struck indirect free kick which rebounded off the inside of the post.
Ironically the goal finally came after a Cardiff attack broke down and a through ball set Cambrian free for a fine finish.
The second came in similar fashion and the game was being played almost entirely in the Cardiff half.
Cardiff did force a corner and flashed an effort just wide but did well to get to half-time at 2-0.
After the break Cardiff were much more competitive with Taylor shooting over early after a good through ball.
Cambrian also put together some good football shooting over after a fine break way move.
Cardiff were managing to exert pressure and pulled a goal back when Taylor’s shot came back to Channelle to head in.
Cardiff pressed for the equaliser but produced few clear chances.
At the other end Cambrian fired wide after a sweeping break.
As Cardiff pressed, a goal mouth scramble seemed it may produce a leveller, but eventually the Cambrian goalkeeper dropped onto the ball with great relief.
A final chance came when Coryn shot wide with what turned out to be the final kick of the game and ultimately a deserved victory for Cambrian.
