U14's v Caereau Ely
(18th May 2009 10:08 AM)
Article by:
Zoe Mendham
On Sunday 19th April Cardiff U14’s traveled to Caereau Ely and came away 2-0 winners. The game began with midfield exchanges but few chances. Cardiff then tested the home keeper with Kelly's through ball sending Coryn away only to see her cross well claimed before any forwards could apply a finish.
Holly saw her long range shot easily saved and at the other end Ely broke through but Charlie saved. The home keeper was dealing well with a series of Cardiff crosses. Kelly also shot wide and the feeling was that Cardiff pressure would eventually tell.
The goal came when Chanelle produced an excellent turn and lob to finally beat the home keeper and for Cardiff to go to the break ahead.
The second period began with Cardiff forcing a corner which came to nothing, a second followed and Chanelle seized on the ball bouncing around the box to ram home Cardiff's second. She followed this by forcing a good save falling backward from Ely's impressive keeper.
Holly saw a fine cross pushed over, and Coryn volleyed across the goal and wide.
Ely broke away and looked set to score but the effort was pushed wide of the post. Taylor produce a fine strike which was again saved before Ely beat the offside trap but again shot wide as Charlie closed down the angle.
The visitors pressed but the home keeper completed a man of the match performance with saves from Kelly and Coryn.
Cardiff's defence remained solid and kept a clean sheet as the game closed with Cardiff two goals to the good.
