U14's v Thornhill 'B' in a Double Header
(18th May 2009 10:24 AM)

Zoe Mendham
On Sunday 10th May Cardiff U14’s entertained Thornhill ‘B’ in a double header, finishing both games convincingly and taking all the points.
Game 1.
The game began with plenty of energy and Cardiff took the lead early when Taylor finished from a Holly cross. Cardiff mounted wave after wave of attacks; Kelly's shot was pushed wide but Taylor pounced again when Jess' strike was only parried. The third came quickly when Chanelle volleyed home from a Coryn cross.
Holly shot over and Taylor hit the bar before Holly made it 4-0 with a tap in from a Coryn corner.
There was time for Channelle to run clear only to see her effort saved by the keeper before we went to the break at 4-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern and Kelly made it 5-0 with a fine run from midfield cutting right through the visitors defence completed with an emphatic finish. Kelly then shot just wide and Cardiff forced a corner from which Coryn blazed over the bar.
The pressure continued and Taylor soon finished for 6-0, Lauren then netted beautifully from a wide position for the 7th.
A fine long shot from Kelly took the tally to 8 and Erin ran through to finish well for Game 1 to end 9-0.
Game 2.
Cardiff again scored early with Channelle tucking away at the far post. Kelly had a good shot well saved for a corner. From the goal mouth pin-ball that followed Chanelle eventually headed in for 2-0.
A clear hand ball gave Cardiff a penalty, which the visiting keeper saved.
Charlie had left the goal to play in mid field and produced a fine run which Kelly finished for 3-0.
Jess then broke through and coolly lobbed the keeper for the 4th.
With continued Cardiff pressure Kelly shot just wide and Holly flashed a shot across the area.
Just before half-time Kelly finished well for 5-0.
Taylor had taken the gloves for this game and just into the second half she was forced into an unconventional yet effective save.
At the other end a sweeping Cardiff move ended with Coryn shooting just wide, and a neat one two between Charlie and Coryn resulted in a cross that flashed across the area.
The Cardiff pressure continued with Helen's long shot clearing the bar, and a succession of shots wide.
To their great credit the visitors did not lose heart and were rewarded with a consolation goal mid way through the second half.
Coryn then produced a fantastic run from inside her own half but having beaten the whole defence scooped the ball over the bar with only the keeper to beat. Not to be defeated Coryn soon broke free again and this time there was no mistake as she added the final goal for a 6-1 Cardiff win.
