Cardiff Cheered on by the Under 12's

There was plenty of noise and atmosphere at The International Sports Stadium last Sunday as Cardiff City LFC Under 12’s came out in force to cheer on the Senior side, as they took on Crystal Palace in the FA Women’s Premier League match.
The U12s came straight from their home matches in the South Wales Girls League, where they picked up two victories against Crickhowell 2-0 and a 10-0 win against Tir Y Birth, the mini side sat and cheered in the stands as the senior counterparts went on to win 2-0.
After the game the youngsters were invited onto the pitch to meet the senior players. Such is the strength of Cardiff’s set-up, many of the players in the current senior squad have come up through the junior sections themselves. These include current Welsh internationals Nicola Cousins and club skipper Charlotte Miller, as well as Ellie Davies, Zoe Atkins, Danielle Broadhurst and Lisa Bird who have all just returned from Denmark with the Wales Under 19’s. Only last season Lisa was playing junior football herself, so there were a lot of questions and interest for the youngsters to talk about and take on board.
Senior goalkeeper and current Welsh Number One, Rhian Nokes, then faced a penalty shoot out, with the youngsters definitely coming out on top, before everyone joined in for a group team photo.
The day was engineered by Under 12’s coach Fiona Shone to forge a good team bonding between the youngsters, some as young as 10 years of age, and the senior girls, and for the youngsters to see for themselves what they can aspire to.
Afterwards, Fiona said, “It was a brilliant day all round for the little ones, they played really well in the morning and then came down to the stadium to cheer on the senior side. It was a lovely experience for them, and they had a great time mixing with the senior players on the pitch afterwards.”
