Under 14's Win in Cwmbran
(13th Oct 2009 09:22 AM)

Cardiff Under 14’s ran out 6-0 winners away to Cwmbran in a hard fought match, which was much closer than the score line would suggest.
Cwmbran started well and an early attack forced the Cardiff keeper, Taylor to save well with her legs. The pressure continued but the Cardiff defence began to gain control and the game was played increasingly on the front foot.
Cardiff's mounting attacks forced a corner and Lauren rose above the home sides defence to head the ball into the back of the net with an excellent effort to put the visitors’ one up.
The play continued to be very competitive in which Cardiff were gaining the upper hand. A home clearance off the line broke to Erin on the edge of the area who was unlucky to see her first time shot bounce back off the bar.
Channelle then produced an excellent cross and Erin arrived late in the box to double Cardiff’s lead.
The third followed quickly when Channelle combined with Erin on the edge of the area and produced a powerful strike into the roof of the net.
Cardiff were a constant threat down the right, and another sweet cross from Channelle saw Lauren nod just wide. They were on top now and when the ball broke to Erin from a scramble in the area she fired home her second goal to send the visitors into the break 4-0 up.
The second half began equally competitively, but Cardiff were playing the better football now and seemed in control at the back.
The pressure was back on the home defence when Erin shot just wide from the edge of the area. Then when a Cardiff corner broke to Katie, she produced an emphatic finish for 5-0.
A fine game was moving into the last quarter when a sweeping move led to Casey squeezing home the sixth and final goal.
Although Cardiff were in control, their defence remained assured in the face of home raids as Cwmbran tried to get back into the game. The pace dropped for the last five minutes and the Cardiff defence fought to keep a hard earned clean sheet.
The final whistle signalled an excellent 6-0 win for Cardiff Under 14’s.
Well done girls.
