U14's v Maesglas U14's v Maesglas (21st Oct 2009 04:41 PM)
Article by: Zoe Mendham

Cardiff Under 14's enjoyed an emphatic 16-0 home win against a spirited Maesglas side who must be congratulated for the commitment shown throughout.

Cardiff were dominant from the off and forced an early corner from which Lauren saw her volley saved. Then Demi's cross from the left was nodded back by Chanelle for Katie to shoot just wide.

It seemed that the first goal must come, and it did when Lauren latched on to an Erin through ball to shoot high into the net. Katie then flashed wide as Cardiff sustained pressure on the visitors' goal.

The second came after a sweeping move from left to right, resulting in a Channelle cross which was parried by the Maesglas keeper, only for Shannon to seize on the loose ball and slot home.

Lauren quickly made it 3-0 from another left wing cross, which was missed by the Maesglas defence. It was soon 4-0 when Erin and Demi combined on the left for Lauren to finish.

The fifth came when Katie cut back for Demi to shoot home. Channelle's crossing from the right had been a feature of the game, and she added the sixth herself when she won the ball in the air and slotted her shot into the corner.

Erin added the seventh with a strike from distance to build on her dominant midfield display. The eighth came from the same source with a beautiful finish from the edge of area into the top corner. There was just time before the break for Channelle to head home from a corner for 9-0.

The second half started as the first had ended with Demi making it 10, tapping in from a Channelle cross.

Taylor, freed from goalkeeping duties for second period, added the 11th.

Cardiff continued to play passing football and Casey added the 12th feeding on a poor clearance to slot home. A fine move led Casey to cross for Taylor to tap in 13. Then Taylor returned the favour and Casey slipped home the fourteenth.

Taylor made it 15, running clear of the defence as the ball was played through from midfield.

Several chances also went begging and saves were made, but there was time for the sixteenth before the final whistle, when Taylor roared forward onto a through ball to finish calmly.
