News Report
U14's v Cyncoed
(21st Oct 2009 04:57 PM)
Article by:
Zoe Mendham
It was a beautiful clear warm morning and the match started with early pressure from Cyncoed who were soon going to realise how strong the Cardiff Under 14’s really are.
Cardiff soon broke the pattern and became dominant as Katie shot just wide. They nearly opened the scoring after a goalmouth scramble and the deadlock was broken when Shannon fired home following a free kick launched into the area.
Demi then flashed an effort wide before Katie made it two after a good move. The third followed quickly when Demi latched onto an excellent through ball from Erin and produced a fine finish.
The pressure continued with Cardiff forcing corner after corner. Erin ran through, her effort was blocked but fell to Katie who finished for the 4th.
After yet another corner Shannon made it five and Lauren finished easily from a right wing cross for the sixth. Katie was proving a constant menace down the right as the visitors were rampant up to the break.
Taylor had been in goal for the first period but was unleashed in attack for the second half - a switch which was to further add to the home side's difficulties. She started with fine running through the Cyncoed defence and forcing an own goal for 7-0.
Aimee then broke from defence to put Taylor through again, she obliged by sprinting free of the defence to finish forcefully for eight.
Another fine goalkeeper-turned-striker effort and Taylor quickly made it nine, and before long she had completed her hat-trick with another excellent finish to take Cardiff to double figures.
Casey then broke forward to make it eleven and the goals were coming thick and fast as Shannon produced an excellent volley for the twelfth.
Cyncoed had no answer to Cardiff’s dominance as Taylor added the 13th after again running free from the defence onto a through ball.
The fourteenth goal produced one of the goals of the game as Casey held off defenders on the right before shooting high into the net leaving the Cyncoed keeper with no chance.
This was equalled by a beautiful strike from Taylor to make it 15-0 before she rounded off a second half double hat-trick to cap a fine performance and complete an emphatic 16-0 away victory against a totally deflated Cyncoed team.
