Ento Aberdare v Cardiff Under 14's

Cardiff City Ladies Under 14’s progressed, with relative ease, into the second round of the League Cup with an emphatic 8-0 win against Ento Aberdare. On a difficult pitch the game was competitive throughout and the home side never lost their commitment despite being up against an on form Cardiff team.
The early skirmishes were not pretty and produced little in the way of goalmouth action. Slowly Cardiff began to produce their football. Nice work from Channelle put Casey in to shoot just wide.
The home keeper then made a good double save when it seemed Demi would score. The pressure was now very much on from the visitors and the deadlock was broken when Katie finished well after the ball bounced dangerously around the home area. Casey saw her cross shot fly just wide, before Channelle made it two with a fine shot from right.
The third came quickly when Courtney broke from a defensive corner, ran strongly through midfield, and played Casey through who held off the challenge of two defenders to finish well.
The Cardiff girls were now playing the game in the home half, with several chances going wide, and the home keeper saving bravely on numerous occasions. At the other end Aimee and Jess were strong in defence, either stepping in to snuff out attacks or effectively playing the off side trap, and often creating attacks with fine distribution from defence.
There was time before half time for the fourth goal, and it arrived when a lovely cross from Demi was met by Erin's subtle first touch and crisp finish into the corner.
The second period followed a similar pattern; competitive but with Cardiff on top. A good effort from Channelle flashed just wide, and Katie produced a fine save when bursting clear.
Aberdare defended doggedly and having changed keeper at half time, the second occupant was no less impressive than the first, producing several fine saves, notably a point blank block from Casey after a flowing move.
A fifth goal seemed inevitable and it came when Channelle poked home from close range.
The sixth came when Katie finished well after a good break and Aberdare were understandably tiring after a long defensive effort in the mud.
Taylor, on as a second half substitute, had an effort disallowed for offside but was not to be denied, and blasted home a spot kick after Katie was tripped in the area.
The eighth and last goal came just before the final whistle when Demi rifled home a superb right wing cross from Channelle.
A strong team performance was epitomised by Shannon, who sacrificed her midfield role for a lonely afternoon in goal as emergency cover. She emerged with a clean sheet and the appreciation of her coach and team mates.
Well done girls, on progressing to the second round of the Cup.
