Cardiff U16's Tesco Cup Semi final Win
(27th Feb 2010 02:17 PM)

Cardiff City Ladies Under 16’s breezed through to the final of the Tesco Cup by beating Caerphilly U16’s 8-0 in this one-sided semi. But preparation for the start of the game was a little unusual when Sam, Rhys, Fiona and coach Les Judd had to sweep water out of the goal areas. They even sent Steve to the nearby garden centre to buy sand to help soak up the water.
When the whistle went, the Cardiff girls were well up for the challenge, playing some good football in the middle of the park and before long a cross was sent in from the wing for Holly to score the opening goal.
Caerphilly looked shell-shocked as Cardiff continued the pressure, with strong tackles, such an improvement from last week.
Almost from the restart Holly scored her second and Caerphilly weren’t getting a look at the ball. Chez took her place back in defence, with Charlotte and Helen. There was even a start for Amee who was taking her debut all in her stride.
In the middle of the park Lauran, Jenna and Kelly were all passing the ball with confidence. Then Kelly latched onto a pass from Jenna to put Cardiff three up.
Lauran was shooting from all areas of the park and she was rewarded with a goal just before the fifth came when Coyrn, with a great run down the wing, cut inside to score her first goal.
With a 5-0 cushion for the second half it was Jess, with a great goal, who got on the score sheet next. Kelly got her second before vice captain, Charlotte, slotted home a penalty to complete the scoring.
Cardiff made some deserved substitutions when Storm came on for Holly, who ran her legs off, Amy replaced Coryn on the wing, and Lauran Davies came on for Amee who was cheered by her teammates.
In the last quarter Cardiff pushed the ball around and Caerphilly, who played a big part in this game, never gave up, making Cardiff work right up to the final whistle.
With a very comfortable 8-0 win, Cardiff U16’s take their rightful place in the final of the Tesco Cup, which will be against Cambrian on March 28th.
The coaches ‘players of the match’ could go to all the girls for their part in the team but I think it should go to Amee and Holly for all their hard work.
